I’LL BUILD A RAMP FOR YOU

Last Sunday I went for a beautiful lunch with my parents. Mum and I decided to walk and push my father in a wheelchair down to a local restaurant/bar for lunch. While the sun was shining, there was still a little breeze so we decided we would sit inside. To do this, my father had to get out of his wheelchair so we could walk him inside. Unfortunately it was one of those days where he was a little too weak to do so. The owners of the café quickly jumped up to help, but it didn’t work.

Luckily for us we found a semi sunny spot outside. What happened next was amazing. Both the owners of the café got out a measuring tape, turned to my dad and said – “Don’t worry mate, I’ll build a ramp for you”.

Did you read that? They will build a ramp so we could all sit indoors next time.

Please read on as this story is more amazing. This bar is one of those very cool, casual bars targeted at a much younger demographic than me and my folks. The food is amazing and they have a wide selection of drinks, but we are NOT their target market.

The owners didn’t care about who we were. All they cared about is us having a warm and inviting experience.

How many people do you know that would build a ramp for their customers? Sometimes this attitude has to come from within, so as leaders within your organisation, share this story. Have your employees think about how they can make their customer’s lives easier.

Another major benefit of their innately kind “build a ramp” gesture is that I am sharing this story with everyone in my circle and beyond. Having customers spread positive stories about your business is one of the most powerful ways to build a brand and loyalty.

It doesn’t matter if you are an employee of a large organisation or a business owner – introduce a “build a ramp” policy.

Imagine how this Small Act had a Major Impact on our day.

For those of you wanting to know the name of the place where this happened, it is the Graze Bar – https://www.facebook.com/grazebarmelbourne.

What will your “build a ramp strategy” be?
